With the game against Oxford City Nomads cancelled, New Bradwell quickly arranged to play Arlesey Reserves, which resulted in a 4-4 draw after they were 2-0 down at half time.

The game kicked off and Jamie Nicholls was first to try and score for the home side but his effort went straight to the keeper.

Ash Farmer came close in the 15th minute but his shot sailed over the bar. Nicholls had another chance to put Bradwell into the lead in the 20th minute but once again the keeper was there to stop him.

Paul Lyon came off in the 21st minute after obtaining an injury and was replaced by Lewis Halford.

Bradwell had their first corner of the game in the 23rd minute. The ball found Nicholls who hit the bar. The ball ricocheted out to Tyrone Taylor who also hit the bar, denying Bradwell the lead yet again.

Billy Lobjoit was fouled in the 27th minute but the referee allowed play to continue, resulting in Dan Green colliding with the defence and Arlesey taking the lead.

Four minutes later Arlesey doubled their lead, Bradwell tried to respond but Nicholls shot went well over the bar.

The home side came back stronger in the second half, with Trey scoring in the 50th minute. Arlesey were quick to react though and scored twice in quick succession making it 4-1.

In the 67th minute Nimi Aji slotted the ball home to start Bradwell’s come back. A cross from Ross Stone in the 75th minute found the head of Nicholls who made it 4-3.

The only yellow card of the game was shown to Arlesey in the 78th minute when Aji was taken down. Billy Lobjoit stepped up to take the free kick but his shot hit the crossbar.

In the closing stages of the game Ash Farmer managed to draw the home side level just before the final whistle.

New Bradwell St. Peter vs Dunstable Town

IMG_5494

After last week’s horrendous wet weather New Bradwell St Peter were faced with playing Dunstable Town on the hottest day of the year. Both sides had numerous chances but after 90 minutes the game ended goalless.

It didn’t start off well for Bradwell who were without Donic Sopa and Billy Lobjoit who were stuck in traffic and Tyrone Taylor was away dealing with a family emergency.

And it didn’t get much better for the home side after Steve Flux had to be substituted off after only a few minutes when he injured his knee during a tackle.

Dunstable rattled the woodwork in the 20th minute having the first real shot of the game so far.

Bradwell were quick to react, when they were awarded a free kick three minutes later. Kyle Durcan found the feet of Jamie Nicholls, who had a shot on target, but the outstretched hands of the Dunstable keeper saved it.

With the sun finally sinking in the sky and the temperature becoming cooler the second half got underway.

The away side decided to substitute half their team in the 55th minute to mix things up a bit. But it was Bradwell who kicked it up a gear when the keeper had to make a save deny the home side of the lead.

The Blues came close in the 67th minute but were only able to find the side netting.

Some confusion in the 71st minute saw the lino flag for offside but the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Fortunately the referee changed his mind and went with the lino’s decision.

Dan Green made a great save in the 76th minute pushing the ball round the post to keep the score level.

A penalty appeal from Bradwell was heard in the closing stages of the match but the referee dismissed the idea and blew the final whistle.

Goals from James Hatch, Aaron McKee and Lewis McBride ensured Leighton won all three points last night, against bottom of the league North Greenford United.

Greenford kicked off with ten men, as some of their players were still making their way to the ground but Leighton weren’t able to take advantage of this.

In the 9th minute George Moore managed to beat Craig Maisiri and Hatch to find the back of the net.

The away side’s eleventh player, Charlie Conner, turned up 16 minutes late. Leighton took this in their stride as they equalised seven minutes later, when Hatch headed the ball home from McBride’s corner.

Matt Hewitt went down injured in the 30th minute and was substituted off and replaced by Josh Murray.

McKee got his head to the ball in the 36th minute from a corner to put Leighton into the lead.

The Blues made their first substitution just before half time bringing off Charlie Mitchell for Alfie Patterson.

Conner came close for the away side in the 54th minute but his shot went just wide of the post.

Another corner for Leighton 10 minutes into the second half could have extended their lead, but Hatch headed the ball over the bar.

Danny Bennell was shown a yellow card after a bad tackle on McBride in the 66th minute. Two minutes later half the floodlights failed and play was paused until the power was restored.

The Reds made a double substitution in the 71st minute replacing Kerran Birch and Aaron McKee with Curtis Shaw and Lorenzo Green.

Leighton got their third goal of the game when McBride skilfully made his way past Lewis Todd and the Greenford defence.

The away side were quick to respond and two minutes later Moore got his second of the game, making it 3-2.

Moore tried to get a hat trick in the 89th minute but Bradley Kirkwood easily stopped his low shot.

Todd was given a straight red just before the final whistle as he took down Shaw. Alfie Cain took on the role as keeper and Ben Gallant stepped up to take the free kick. Cain made a magnificent save to deny Leighton of a fourth goal.

Leighton’s last game of the season is away to Chalfont St. Peter on Saturday 23rd April kick off 3pm.

The Season has come to an End

So tomorrow for me the season is over, however for Leighton Town it finishes on Saturday 23rd April. I was going to be watching a different team tomorrow, however after Leighton’s fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch last Saturday, the game got re-arranged for the same evening.

Looking ahead to tomorrow evening the two teams at the bottom of league face each other. North Greenford cannot do anything to avoid relegation, however last season they were granted a reprieve from relegation, after the league reshuffled the teams in each division.

The team sat in 20th, Hanwell, if they lose tomorrow and Leighton win, Hanwell will drop below the relegation zone, but the deciding game for both teams is on Saturday when one of them will be relegated.

So it’s all still to play for, for Leighton with only two games left this season they might make it or they might not. If they drop down a league there will be a lot more travelling, but the team and management might find the level of football more appropriate. If they stay in the Evo-Stik Division One Central league they will continue to struggle without the correct management and funds.

If anyone is interested in attending tomorrow evening’s game, which kicks off at 7:45pm the address, is as follows:

Aylesbury FC could only draw with their rivals Aylesbury United with goals from Gareth Price and Ben Bateman, maintaining their lead until just before the final whistle. United goals from Stacey Field and Sonny French secured them a point.

The Moles kicked off looking strong with Gareth Price having a shot on target but it was easily saved by Zaki Oualah.

Daniel Murphy came close to putting the home side in the lead in the 8th minute but the ball was punched clear. However only as far as Brian Haule, who’s shot was then saved by the foot of Oualah.

It wasn’t long before Aylesbury FC got the goal they were looking for. In the 16th minute a free kick by Murphy fell to the feet of Price who fired the ball home into the top corner of the net.

Nine minutes later the Ducks drew level when Field found the back of the net. Chris Crook was shown a yellow card in the 30th minute after a foul on Price.

United could have taken the lead in the 34th minute but Field’s shot went just wide of the post. They came close again in the 42nd minute but Jack Wood’s header went over the bar.

Just before half time, United failed to clear the ball away from a corner. The ball fell to Bateman who slotted it passed numerous defenders to make it 2-1.

In the second half Vinnie Shrieves came close for the Ducks hitting post denying them of an equaliser.

The away side were determined to score; Field shot wide when a miskick from James Weatherill landed at his feet and then Shrives headed it over the bar moments later.

United came close to drawing level when Crook crossed the ball to Field but his attempt hit the post.

With 90 minutes on the clock the Ducks managed to equalise. Reece Cameron found French on the edge of the box and he fired the ball into the back of the net.

Just before the final whistle Ben Stevens was shown a yellow card after he fouled Jack Beech.

The next game I’ll be attending is on Saturday 16th April, Leighton Town vs North Greenford United, kick off 3pm.
