Aylesbury FC could only draw with their rivals Aylesbury United with goals from Gareth Price and Ben Bateman, maintaining their lead until just before the final whistle. United goals from Stacey Field and Sonny French secured them a point.

The Moles kicked off looking strong with Gareth Price having a shot on target but it was easily saved by Zaki Oualah.

Daniel Murphy came close to putting the home side in the lead in the 8th minute but the ball was punched clear. However only as far as Brian Haule, who’s shot was then saved by the foot of Oualah.

It wasn’t long before Aylesbury FC got the goal they were looking for. In the 16th minute a free kick by Murphy fell to the feet of Price who fired the ball home into the top corner of the net.

Nine minutes later the Ducks drew level when Field found the back of the net. Chris Crook was shown a yellow card in the 30th minute after a foul on Price.

United could have taken the lead in the 34th minute but Field’s shot went just wide of the post. They came close again in the 42nd minute but Jack Wood’s header went over the bar.

Just before half time, United failed to clear the ball away from a corner. The ball fell to Bateman who slotted it passed numerous defenders to make it 2-1.

In the second half Vinnie Shrieves came close for the Ducks hitting post denying them of an equaliser.

The away side were determined to score; Field shot wide when a miskick from James Weatherill landed at his feet and then Shrives headed it over the bar moments later.

United came close to drawing level when Crook crossed the ball to Field but his attempt hit the post.

With 90 minutes on the clock the Ducks managed to equalise. Reece Cameron found French on the edge of the box and he fired the ball into the back of the net.

Just before the final whistle Ben Stevens was shown a yellow card after he fouled Jack Beech.

The next game I’ll be attending is on Saturday 16th April, Leighton Town vs North Greenford United, kick off 3pm.

Last Night’s Game becomes Tomorrow Night’s Game

As you can probably tell from the title last night’s game didn’t go ahead and it has been re-arranged for tomorrow night (Thursday). However much to the annoyance of most people the game wasn’t called off until 7pm, when most supporters and players had already turned up.

So I will be heading once again to Aylesbury tomorrow night to hopefully watch this local derby take place.

Take Two

Once again, quite a regular thing now and I’m sure you’re fed up of hearing it but I wasn’t able to get to any of the weekend action due to my work commitments. Let’s say this though the weekend I had at work I’d have much rather sat in the wind, rain or any kind of weather for that matter watching the football.

But anyway tomorrow I will be heading to the Aylesbury FC vs Aylesbury United re-arranged fixture. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you will know that three weeks ago I went to this game with my boyfriend and we were left in the dark at half time when the floodlights went out.

Well they finally got round to re-arranging the fixture and because I’ve kept my ticket stubs it means we can watch the game without having to pay again. I only hope that the floodlights don’t fail again and that the first half is more exciting than it was three weeks ago.

Anyone interested in attending the game, kick off is at 7:45pm and the address is as follow:

Tuesday Night

With the Easter holidays over I’m back in Harlow to attend the last six weeks of term before a couple of exams and then I’ll be all alone in the big wide world trying to find my first steps either into a journalism career or an animal one.

It’s typical that over the Easter break there were no mid-week fixtures anywhere but as soon as uni starts again there is a fixture the very next day. So on Tuesday 5th April, which is tomorrow, I’ll be driving the 42 miles home to watch Leighton Town vs Uxbridge.

This fixture was originally down to be played on Saturday 5th March at Barton Rovers ground after the boiler broke and no hot water was available at Bell Close. However after a freak snowstorm the match referee called the game off 45 minutes before kick off meaning Uxbridge’s 110-mile journey was completely pointless.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game both teams lost their games on Saturday, Uxbridge losing away to Kings Langley 3-1 while Leighton only lost 1-0 to Diamonds in front of their biggest crowd of the season. If Leighton win tomorrow and the team just above them in the league, Aylesbury United lose, they’ll find themselves once again just above the relegation zone, which they’ve been battling with since the start of the season.

Earlier on in the season Leighton travelled to Uxbridge and lost 3-0, hopefully they’ll be able to get their own back and win tomorrow night. Anyone who is interested in attending the game kick off is at 7:45pm and the address is as follows:

Bell Close

Bank Holiday Washout

As I drove to work this morning at 8:30am in the gale force wind, the rain hitting my windscreen and swerving the rather large puddles on the road, the thought crossed my mind that today’s match would definitely be postponed and I wasn’t wrong.

I started work at 9am, in the fitting rooms and as the time went on with no windows to see out of until I went on my break at 12:30pm I had no way of knowing if the game was on or off. I sat in the canteen munching on some chocolate shortbread staring out at the beautiful sunshine to then look on Twitter and discover the game had been called off at 11:30am due to a waterlogged pitch.

On the plus side this means I didn’t need to decipher the notes my dad was going to take in the second half and it also means I will hopefully be able to attend the re-arranged fixture unless its after the 19th April because then I have to take my puppy Trudi to puppy classes.

The Joys of Working Bank Holiday

Happy Easter to all my followers and visitors, hope you’re all having a lovely relaxing weekend stuffing yourself full of chocolate!! I spent my morning making cornflake nests with mini eggs and chicks on, staring at my Easter eggs and presenting my gorgeous puppy, Trudi with a new toy!!

Unlike most of you who have probably had a lovely long four day weekend, I have unfortunately had to work which means I couldn’t get to any non-league football on Saturday.

However on Monday Leighton Town are at home to Aylesbury United, I finish work at 3pm so I am hoping I will make it in time for the second half. You’re probably thinking what use will half a match report be, well I have a plan for that. My dad will be at the match when it kicks off at 3pm, so I have put him in charge of taking notes until I get there so then I will be able to write a whole match report when I get home.

So what happened on Saturday, well Leighton played away at Potters Bar and beat them 1-0 in the 66th minute with a goal from the managers’ son, Josh Murray. With Aylesbury United and North Greenford both losing it meant that Leighton managed to make their way out of the relegation zone.

Let’s hope that this is the start of Leighton’s come back, even though it is so late on in the season, fingers crossed for three points on Monday and that I can actually make out the notes my dad has taken.

Left in the Dark

20160322_202821

A goalless draw for the two Aylesbury sides and it was all still to play for in the second half until the game was abandoned due to floodlight failure.

Aylesbury United kicked off but it wasn’t a great start as their first touch went straight out for a throw in. Edward Smith for The Moles shot just wide of the post in the 2nd minute already putting the pressure on Zaki Oualah.

The first corner of the game was for The Ducks in the 6th minute but unfortunately Jake Bewley couldn’t find a way past the first man.

Six minutes later it was the home sides first corner of the game but Kyle Anthony headed it over the bar.

Another chance for The Reds came in the 19th minute but Oualah easily gathered Gareth Price’s low shot.

Just before half time Daniel Murphy was shown a yellow card. Bewley stepped up to take the free kick and Lea Coulter came close with a header but it wasn’t to be, making it 0-0 at half time.

After the players had left the pitch, the ground plunged into darkness as the floodlights went out. An announcement over the tannoy confirmed there had been a fault with the floodlights and it would take 15 minutes to fix.

With the electricity still on inside the club and the tannoy playing the latest tunes, 15 minutes past and still no floodlights. After waiting for 45 minutes and dancing along to the music to keep warm, finally they announced that it was no easy fix and the game had been postponed.

The fixture is to be re-arranged and if you keep your tickets you’ll be given free entry into the game when it takes place again.

The next game I will be attending is on Bank Holiday Monday 28th March; when Leighton Town FC will be playing Aylesbury United at home, kick off 3pm.
