Work vs Football

Tomorrow unfortunately I cannot attend any non-league football due to the fact I’m stuck at work from 11am-8pm, sucks to be me. But due to so many re-arranged fixtures I will be back watching the midweek action on Tuesday evening at North Greenford United.

Aylesbury United vs Leighton Town (24/02/16)

Aylesbury United come out on top in relegation battle

20160224_202115

A 2-1 win for Aylesbury with goals from Bruno Brito and Lea Coulter saved them from entering the relegation zone last night, even though Ben Gallant managed to pull back a goal for Leighton late on in the second half.

It was a slow start for both sides but it was Aylesbury who won an early free kick, taken by Shaun Owens, but easily cleared by Jordan Jenkins.

Sonny French had a chance to put Aylesbury into the lead in the 14th minute but it was well blocked Maxwell Ibeto.

In the 15th minute Brito hit the underside of the crossbar and the ball bounced just over the line, a controversial goal, after some great teamwork from French and Coulter.

French nearly made it 2-0 for Aylesbury but his shot in the 32nd minute went just wide of the post.

It looked like Leighton had a chance to pull level in the 37th minute when a great kick from Sam Wyer found James Hatch, but after passing it to Gallant his shot went well wide.

Coulter was shown a yellow card just before half time after bringing down Josh Murray. Aaron McKee stepped up to take the free kick and Oualah pushed it wide for a corner.

Leighton made their first substitution of the game just after half time bringing off Alex Woodfine for Craig Maisiri.

Shouts for a penalty were heard in the 55th minute when Oualah took down Hatch in the box, but the referee dismissed the appeal.

Ibrahim Kallon was shown a yellow card for Leighton after he flattened Greg Williams in the 64th minute and ex-Leighton player Chris Crook was also shown a yellow after swearing at the referee.

Leighton made their second and third substitutions of the game brining off Murray for Curtis Shaw and Oscar Brooks for Keeran Birch.

An equaliser for Leighton came in the 82nd minute from a corner taken by Lewis McBride, which was headed in by Gallant.

However the thought of earning a point from this difficult game was short lived. Aylesbury picked up the pace and Coulter headed home the winning goal.

A great ball in by Birch was well dealt with by Oualah in the 93rd minute to deny Leighton of a crucial equaliser.

With the game ending 2-1 to Aylesbury, Leighton still find themselves 21st in the league on 20 points.

Leighton’s next game is away to Beaconsfield SYCOB on Saturday 27th February kick off 3:00pm.

How to prepare for the cold

So as many of you are aware it’s a pretty cold night outside, so I made a vlog of how you should prepare yourself for the frosty conditions. No matter how bad I look at least I know I’ll be warm!!

Game Day- New Ground

So tonight’s game (Aylesbury United vs Leighton Town) is at a ground that I have never been to before. It’s a place I have driven past numerous times to get to Oxford but never been able to attend a match. This ground is known as Meadow View Park, the home of Thame United. Now you may be thinking hang on, why isn’t the game Thame vs Leighton, well the reason is Aylesbury United currently ground share with Thame after their pitch was sold off for houses but still stands empty.

I always get a buzz before going to a new ground, it sounds pretty sad I know, but it’s exciting to see the facilities and the condition of the pitch that the opposition have to offer. Now looking at the ground from the outside it’s fairly new and very modern. My expectations are that the pitch will be immaculate, even though the game has previously been postponed due to the weather and the tea bar will have a good selection of hot food and beverages.

I haven’t been able to get to a non-league match since the beginning of December due to work commitments and the lack of football has driven me crazy. Checking the score of each game and reading the match reports certainly isn’t the same as experiencing the game first hand. So fingers crossed that the sun melts away the frost and the pitch is playable for tonight’s 7:45pm kick off.

Tonight’s game is extremely important for Leighton, they are currently sat 21st in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central table, on 20 points.  Aylesbury United are just above them on 21 points. If Leighton can pull off a win tonight they will move out of the relegation zone.

For anyone interested in attending the game the address is as follows:
